Dryer Vent Hose

A dryer vent hose is something which most people overlook, just as with a dryer vent brush, yet it can really aid in the reduction of fires resulted from the build-up of excess lint within the dryer ducts. Cleaning out the lint from the lint traps is an extremely important step to prevent fires from your dryer, and a dryer vent hose makes that job much, much easier to accomplish.

Firstly, let’s explain a little bit more about what a dryer vent hose is, and why you will need one.

A dryer vent hose is just what it sounds like: a long, flexible hose which allows you to vent the hot and humid air out of the dryer, and keeping it away from the lint which may build up over the course of using it. Since lint is so highly flammable, the hot air which rushes by it on every run cycle increases its chances of catching fire, and burning your home to the ground. A dryer vent hose allows you to let that hot air escape and keep it away from the lint which builds up over time.

There are many different materials which you can purchase dryer vent hoses in, and they all act somewhat differently when it comes to their job. Remember, safety comes first, so saving money in this area is not recommended as you get what you pay for when it comes to these materials.

With that being said, the cheapest of the materials is a vinyl dryer vent hose. These hoses work well, but over time they create static which tends to accumulate the lint within the hose, which can lead to fires. For this reason, vinyl dryer vent hoses are not UL approved, and are not recommended for long-term use.

What we recommend is a steel or aluminum dryer vent hose. These materials both will not attract lint, through static, and will stay much cooler throughout the running process. In addition, these hoses are much more durable, so running them through walls and pulling them violently won’t result in a tear or break in the side of the hose lining.

All dryer vent hoses, however, will accumulate lint and water within them over time. This is inevitable, as the screen of the dryer lint trap only works so well, and the humid air of the dryer has a lot of water in it. For this reason, the dryer vent hose must be cleaned at least twice a year, thoroughly, in order to maintain optimum performance.
